We also had a popping good time today in class. One of our students' uncle has a local kettle corn company, and donated freshly popped kettle corn for our snack today. As soon as snack was through, we went outside and had popsicles in the warm sunshine. Our kids had a big week with lots of adjustments to make with the class changes, so I wanted to reward them for their patience.
Next week we will begin Theme 1 in Language Arts, "Look At Us". We will be talking about how we used to be little, but now we are getting bigger, with a strong tie-in to our living vs. non-living unit in Science (living things grow and change). I would like for each student to bring in one baby picture next week to help us with our unit. We will also be memorizing a poem about growing up for the poetry journals.
In Math, we are in Module 2, which is all about one-to-one correspondence, counting objects up to 10, and beginning to write and read numbers up to 10. We are playing lots of simple games and math tubs using dice and counters of different sorts. You can help at home by having your child count everything...steps, forks at the table, commercials, or anything else.
To help make counting fun, here is a video that we will be using next week to get kids counting to 100 with ease. Maybe you can preview it at home this weekend with your child, so when I play it next week, they can say, "HEY!!! I saw that at my HOME!!!"
