As always, I recommend sitting down with your child as they are on the computer to see what they are learning. Check these out.
ABCYa One of my favorites for kids. This one allows you to choose the grade level for your child, plus you get math and reading games at one site. | Starfall This reading website is a classic, with interactive games that kids love to use. Your child can go from learning the alphabet all the way to reading greek mythology. |
PBS Kids There are so many fun, engaging games here that don't require kids to read any instructions. They can just jump right in. Here are just a few of the categories of games available: ABC Games Reading Games Math Games Spanish Games | Game Goo Good thing kids love weird little characters, because this reading game is full of them! It's sure to get a belly laugh, along with lots of literacy knowledge. |
Blabberize An amazingly creative site that allows you to make animated talking lips on any photo or picture. What makes this educational for kids, you ask? Well, first of all, it's hilarious! (See some of my "Blabbers" on the Video Shorts page). Secondly, a child can record themselves reading a book, reciting a poem, or telling facts that they learned about their favorite topic (see some of my former students' book report Blabbers here). Anything that makes learning this fun is a winner in my book. | Spelling City This website requires some adult set-up to get started. You type in up to 10 sight words (or color words, dolch words, etc) that your child needs practice on. Then click "play games". There are several free games that use the selected words for spelling practice. |
