We are finishing up out math unit on measurement this week--we've been experimenting and learning big words like length, width, height and capacity. To finish off our chapter, we will do a fun project with flashlights.
Please send in a flashlight with your child tomorrow. It can be any size or shape...actually, the more variety we get, the better! Be sure to put a little piece of masking tape labeled with your child's name on the flashlight, so that I can be sure each one gets back to their proper owner. Also, if you have several flashlights, and want to send in more than one, that would be much appreciated. Some kids may not have a flashlight at home, and would be thankful to borrow an extra.
The kids will join with a partner and do some measuring with their flashlights. We will also sing some fun shadow songs and play a language arts game with the lights. The flashlights will all come home on Friday.
Thanks for your help, and I'll let you know how it goes!
One final note...I have begun the formal assessments in reading and literacy for the month of January. It will take several weeks for me to complete the tests and to create reports, but be looking for those to come home at the end of the month. Please continue to read to your child every day, and to work letters, sounds and sight words daily.
Enjoy the flakes...while they last!
